Masseria Guadiano Vecchio

Over 200 years of history

The origins

The original masseria dates back to the early 1800’s, the period of the reign of “Apulian Squinter”, the Count of Conversano. At that time the surrounding area, especially Alberobello, was populated by “Villagers”.

According to the documents and evidence collected over time, they were the first to build famous “Trulli”, which served them an asylum in the forest and which later covered the entire low area of the Apulian Murgia.

The nucleus

The original nucleus of Masseria Guadiano Vecchio was the area between today’s Vignola House and Montagnola House. The heart of the building included, apart from different service areas, two large stables for animals and also two large barns for animals and trulli houses as accommodation for the staff in charge of animal care.

XX Century

Over time, the owning family enlarged their property by building a complex of service trulli “fencing” a big square in front of the entrance to Forlì House. In 1900 one of the stalls and some rooms on the top floor became the owners’ residence, which today corresponds to a splendid Vignola House.
